Elementary Student Leadership Coordinator
Student leadership means students take active roles in their school community and develop positive skills. We believe that with support and encouragement, every young person has the potential to become a leader in some area of their life. The qualities, values, and skills invested in them during their primary school years can determine their life success in Middle School and the future success of our society.
Recess Coach Program
The first step for our Students' Leadership was to develop the Recess Coach system, where students will step ahead, lead the recess games, and take extra responsibility.
The recess coach program required 24 recess coaches from elementary school, and students rotated every two weeks. We had football, 4-square ball games, and board game stations. Each station required two recess coaches, so they could help each other and take turns leading the games. Students trained to help maintain the school playground equipment, distribute the sports equipment at recess, put it all away when the recess times are over, lead sports and board games during recess, model conflict resolution, and exhibit leadership qualities during the recess yard.
Kids Helping Kids (Charity Project)
Every year, through the Kids-Helping-Kids event, BBS elementary students help children who are not as fortunate as they are. This year, we donated 3.5 thousand dollars we earned from our recess activities to the Kuwait Association for the Care of Children in Hospitals in Kuwait.
During your second recess time, students in Grades 1-5 ran laps around the ES gym. We ran 7,000 kilometers and Grades 4&5 students jumped 3,000 ropes!
Grade 4&5 Leadership Club students created a committee and planned a timeline of work, chose and planned the recess activities to earn the donation, created and ran the publication campaign, and finally, led the activities.
I appreciate and am thankful for my colleague, Mr. Ali who is establishing and running the leadership initiatives with me. We see that our students develop and grow as leaders who can be ready for the changing world.
